James Hardie exterior cladding installation in St Albans, Hertfordshire

James Hardie cladding installation in Hertfordshire

If your house looks like all the others in the road there’s one sure-fire way to make it stand out from the crowd – and that’s to fit James Hardie cladding.

Lidia was a former client of Summit Cladding so we were delighted when she contacted us again after her recent house move in St Albans, Hertfordshire.

At her previous home we had replaced all the old timber fascias, so Lidia was familiar with the quality of our work. At the new house she was wondering what to do about a small area of render on the house wall that was looking tired and in need of attention.
The rendered area, above and below one of the first-floor windows, was a feature of this group of 1970s houses, but was quite a dated look.

Advice on improving the look

The original idea had been simply to cover this small area with cladding and leave the remaining brickwork uncovered. But Summit takes pride in offering advice on improving the look of a property and enhancing its broader aesthetic appeal.

So, our suggestion that Lidia’s house would benefit from cladding across the entire width of the first floor, with wrap-around cladding at the sides, was met with an enthusiastic “yes.” The plan also had the advantage of covering up unattractive concrete lintels above the windows, as well as that odd section of render.

Installation goes ahead

Once we had the go-ahead we followed our four-stage installation routine. First, treated timber battens are fixed to the brickwork. Then a breathable vapour barrier is fitted over the battens. After that, the Hardiplank concrete composite cladding is attached. The final stage is to fit aluminium corner trims to complete the installation.

The colour chosen was a soft grey called cobblestone, for an understated but stylish new look. And with the benefit of a 10-year guarantee, Lidia’s home is now the talk of her street.
