Stunning looks and maximum energy efficiency Giving your home a makeover these days has got to be about more than just making it look good. With climate change in the news, it’s also an ideal opportunity to maximise energy efficiency. Saving money on fuel and reducing your carbon footprint at the same time is a win-win all round. Our latest client, Laurence, from Cobham in Surrey, who already had solar panels on his roof, had taken this principle a stage further. He had called in a specialist surveyor to identify areas around his house where heat was escaping, so that we could ensure there was maximum insulation when we carried out our renovation. Heat loss identified The specialist found that... View Article

Looks and longevity of uPVC Here at Summit Cladding we understand that not everyone likes uPVC. We appreciate that some householders will always prefer the natural look of timber and they are willing to pay to maintain it for as long as it takes. But we see it as part of our mission to persuade our clients that today’s cladding materials, as supplied and fitted by us, really do beat timber for looks and longevity. Client’s eye for detail On this job our client was John, a retired furniture restorer from Palmers Green in North London whose career, by definition, had given him an eye for detail and an appreciation of fine materials. And he didn’t like PVC, not one... View Article

Installation Gallery Lindab steel rainwater systems When you look up at the roofline of a house do you even notice the gutters and downpipes? If you do, and they make you take a second look, it’s probably Lindab Guttering, a top-end steel rainwater system that we at Summit Cladding love to instal on customers’ homes. Summit was contacted by Neel, from Hadley Wood near Barnet, who was having a bit of trouble with his roof, which needed a bit more than mere cosmetic changes. The original scalloped timber barge boards were rotting, the decorative finule through the ridge tiles was beyond repair and the cement work in the roof valleys was unstable. Maintenance-free fascia boards With scaffolding in place, Summit... View Article

Here at Summit Cladding, we are well used to reassuring our clients that we can and will reproduce the “look” that they want, with all the benefits of up-to-date maintenance-free uPVC materials. Many of us might dream about living in a 300-year-old house in a sleepy English village, but to avoid that dream becoming a nightmare it’s important to keep on top of the maintenance work. Summit Cladding was contacted by the owner of a property near Manningtree in Essex that had once been an old bakery and village shop, now converted into a single home. As we have written before, Summit loves a challenge, but when we inspected the property it was clear that this would not be a simple installation! There had been structural repairs and replacements around the building, but some of the lead work had deteriorated, along with part of the original slate roof and some areas were... View Article

Just imagine how nice it would be to get rid of all those dirty old paint brushes in the garage and never have to buy another tin of paint. With Summit Cladding, that becomes a reality. We were contacted by clients near Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, who were fed up with the constant round of painting and renovating their wooden bargeboards, fascias and soffits. It’s a laborious job at the best of times, and not without danger standing at the top of a ladder. And if you hire a contractor every few years it doesn’t come cheap. Fit and Forget Our clients were renovating their substantial and attractive property and wanted to retain the period features, so Summit’s solution was to fit... View Article

The Coronavirus lockdown has been a massive challenge for businesses and traders, but Summit Cladding is still open and getting the work done. We have just completed our first installation since the restrictions were introduced, taking extra care to observe the government’s guidelines on social distancing. When we first met our clients six weeks ago, at their home in Great Dunmow, Essex, before the lockdown started, they had just had their windows replaced and were keen to have new gutters and fascias to match them. Wide range of colours Their chosen colour was Anthracite Grey number 7016, one of a large range available on the so-called RAL Chart, which always comes up with an exact match. One of the consequences... View Article

If there’s one thing you can say with certainty about the Victorians it’s that they knew how to build houses. Good strong bricklaying with lovely thick woodwork around the roofline. But that means it’s quite a challenge to replace those old bargeboards while keeping the authentic Victorian look. Summit Cladding had been contacted by our client, Patricia, who was maintaining her sister’s property in Haringey, North London, which had been owned by the family for over 50 years. The house had served them well, but with Patricia’s sister due to return home after living in the Caribbean, it was time for a bit of a makeover. Fresh new look The paintwork on those Victorian bargeboards was in poor condition and... View Article

If there’s one lesson that we all have to learn about our homes, it’s that even the finest building materials will have to be repaired or replaced one day. This blog is the story of a 1970s house in Chigwell, Essex, which needed some urgent attention when Summit Cladding was called in. Our client, Clive, is in charge of maintaining a portfolio of properties in Loughton and Chigwell and he contacted us when he noticed that nature was taking its toll on the wooden bargeboards. After 40 years, the wood was beginning to rot and damp was getting into the soffits, partly because the gutters were full of debris and no longer working properly. Removing old woodwork Our first task... View Article

Our latest client, Marco, called in Summit Cladding when he decided the front of his house was looking “tired” and in need of some tender loving care. Not only was the paintwork peeling away, but the gutters were constantly leaking – and just to make things worse Marco had been let down by decorators who were put off by the extent of the rotten timber. Time for action There comes a time in the life of every property when the timber degrades to such an extent that further painting is no longer economical. With Summit Cladding called in to rescue the situation, we erected scaffolding and stripped off all the original timber at the front of the house, checking that... View Article
