What is Cladding?

Cladding is something you may not have spent a lot of time thinking about.  It is a layer of material used in construction that helps both to shield and direct the rain and other natural weather elements away from the exterior walls.  Cladding prevents water from entering the structure of a building, and directs it into guttering systems.  Summit Cladding has been creating cladding solutions for over 30 years.

Types of Cladding

There are several different types of cladding.  Wood was once used, but is no longer practical.  As timber rots it becomes time consuming and expensive to maintain.  There is more of a risk that the rot will infiltrate the home and cause serious structural damage.  Wood is also subject to fire, vermin and insect damage.

PVC Cladding

PVC Cladding is a superior material because it will never rot or need to be repainted.  It is available in natural wood colours, as well as black and white.  The material has been certified by the British Board of Agrement (BBA).  PVC cladding has a ten year guarantee on coloured cladding and twenty year guarantee on white cladding.  There are multiple sizes, designs and wood grain colours.  Also, it can be recycled up to ten times, while resisting extreme weather conditions, fire, vermin and insect damage.

James Hardie Cladding

James Hardie Cladding is known for its wood finish effect.  This cladding resembles wood siding to an astonishing degree.  Because it is actually fibre cement, it retains superior strength and flexibility.  It also has an A2 fire rating.  This means that it will not ignite, nor spread flames to other parts of the building in the event of a fire.
