Guttering

guttering

A gutter is a narrow trough or duct attached beneath the roof eaves of a building. Its purpose is to gather and funnel rainwater away from the structure of a building in order to prevent weather damage. Gutters are also interchangeably referred to as ‘guttering systems’.

Why Is Guttering So Important?

The integrity of your gutters is important for several reasons.  Your blocked or leaky gutters can have a major impact on your home!  When blocked, gutters can flood water into the property, causing thousands in water damage.

Water that is blocked can leak into ceiling cavities, causing structural damage and even ceiling collapse.  It can also destroy furniture and irreplaceable possessions.  This is not a decision you want to make lightly.  The best thing you can do is to have your gutters installed by professionals you trust.

Removing Concrete Guttering

Concrete guttering was used most during the 1950’s-1970 and is also known as Finlock guttering.  Several problems can occur from concrete guttering including leaks in the mortar and movement of the concrete blocks which can lead to sagging above window frames, leaks, damp, cold and rot within your home.

By the time problems are assessed, thousands of pounds worth of damage can exist within the ceilings, wall cavities and basements within your home. Instead, many home owners are making the responsible decision to remove their existing concrete guttering and replace it with lightweight, durable PVC guttering.

Problems Caused By Concrete Guttering

A number of problems can be caused by concrete guttering including mould, dry rot, sagging windows, fungal growth, rotting wood, cosmetic damage and insect infestation.  These results can cause health risks as well as expensive material damage.
