Repairing a faulty cladding installation

Not for the first time, Summit Cladding has been called in by a desperate homeowner to put right an installation by another builder that has gone badly wrong.

The client’s townhouse in Loughton, Essex, had been fitted with new windows and cladding but the result was a catalogue of errors too numerous to list here! The worst of it were the windows that wouldn’t open and the cladding coming loose because the screws were not holding it on to the timber battens.

The lady of the house was in a dilemma as she had lost faith in her original contractor and was concerned about approaching another company, but we at Summit Cladding assured her we could build a new and trusting relationship.

A mix of old and new cladding

We began by erecting scaffolding at the front and back of the property and removing a large proportion of the original cladding intact. This was important as our client had already spent a lot of money having the work done, and the more we could save and re-use the better it would be. In fact, we managed to save half the original cladding, which we installed at the rear.

At the front we installed new Swish shiplap PVC cladding in black, a lovely contemporary look, as well as black ash replacement fascia boards and round deep flow guttering with eaves support trays. The flat roof of the small extension at the front was re-covered with a Resitec fibreglass roofing system to compliment the shiplap cladding.

Finishing touches equally important

As an extra touch, the original gas inspection door cupboard near the front door was rebuilt to help it blend in with all the new materials. Oh, and one other error by the previous installer also came to light – or rather, didn’t light! A wiring fault in the exterior lights meant they didn’t work, so our recommended electrician made them safe and fitted two new black lights to match the cladding.

Our client was overjoyed with the smart new look of her house and so relieved that she placed her trust in Summit Cladding to put everything right.
