Stunning looks and maximum energy efficiency

Giving your home a makeover these days has got to be about more than just making it look good. With climate change in the news, it’s also an ideal opportunity to maximise energy efficiency. Saving money on fuel and reducing your carbon footprint at the same time is a win-win all round.

Our latest client, Laurence, from Cobham in Surrey, who already had solar panels on his roof, had taken this principle a stage further. He had called in a specialist surveyor to identify areas around his house where heat was escaping, so that we could ensure there was maximum insulation when we carried out our renovation.

Heat loss identified

The specialist found that much of the heat loss was coming from the original PVC cladding at the front of the property, as well as around the dormer windows at the side and rear. Having that information before we started the work was very helpful.

Laurence had contacted Summit Cladding after he saw a blog and photos online of an installation we had carried out on another property, using Ecoscape slatted cladding. Unlike most traditional horizontal cladding, Ecoscape is made from recycled plastic and wood fibres, often installed in vertical strips, and is becoming increasingly popular.

Contemporary new look

We began the installation by removing all the old PVC cladding from the parts of the house identified as losing heat. We fitted foil-backed insulation into the exposed voids, built up as thick as possible to minimise air pockets. Then we secured in place the Ecoscape vertical slatted cladding in the colour black, a bold and contemporary new look.

The existing timber bargeboards and fascias were also removed and replaced with black ash PVC to match the cladding. While undertaking this work we discovered that there were no lintels above the dormer windows and some leaks in the roof, so our team of skilled craftsmen carried out the necessary remedial work.

Our client, Laurence, now has a stunning looking home, clad in long lasting and low maintenance material, and guaranteed to save money on his heating bills for years to come.
